All you can ever do when you get an engine management warning light like that is go to a garage and have it checked out. There's no point speculating what it might be. Hate to say it but get used to it in a Diesel Renault......

Has the car been driven with bio diesel or vegetable oil in it. The injectors are very sensitive to anything other than ordinary diesel.

4 new injectors are not expensive, and the most likely cause.

Also try some diesel cleaner, cost around £7, and take it on a fast motorway run, 70 mph and in 4th gear, not fifth, for 5 minutes.

If that doesent work, try taking it to a Renault garage with diagnostic equipment, cost will be around £50 and they will tell you immediately what the fault is

The mechanic needs to use a scanner and read the fault code which will be logged in the cars ecm, once the code is read and understood, then take action to cure problems.

You may have a faulty cell in your battery causing a lower than normal voltage in the car's electrical system. A new battery would be worth trying.

However, I think your mechanic is pretty clueless - the car should be plugged in for diagnosis rather than it being done by guesswork. Even if he was correct, there's no way that a fuel tank would cost more than a couple of hundred quid fitted. I'd be inclined to go elsewhere & get a second opinion.

Sounds like a bad alternator to me or your battery isn't holding it's charge. Don't know about the whole injector fault thing though. First, get a new battery and install it, if it still loses power, get the alternator tested at a mechanic's shop. If that doesn't work you need to find out more about this injector fault thing. Take it to a different shop.
