Can anyone tell me where the dipstick is on the 2003 expression model had a look and i think it could be under the yellow cap, tight to twist so just left it --- anyway could this be why my horn is not working?? (silly question i know !!)

not sure where the dipstick is on that model
but it doesn't have anything to do with your horn.

the dipstick is literally a stick, you should be able to see a yellow (could be another colour) hoop which you pull out with the oil level markings at the bottom of the stick. however i can't help tell you where it is as i've not seen under the bonnet of this car - also it seems some manufacturer's are omitting these rather vital checking points, forcing the owner to take it to a garage instead.
as for the yellow cap it can be the oil filler car, but since you say its tight then its more likely to be the coolant pressure cap.
all of these are completely un-related to the horn, which is an electrical component so have the wiring checked, the fuse, the horn or even the horn switch on the steering wheel or the indictator stalks (depending on vehicle make/model)
to Andy Haych:- never heard that before, a oil level on the filler cap... only ever seen it on some motorbikes.

The tight yellow cap covers the filling point for the engine oil. there should be a visible yellow dipstick in a similar location with a round yellow ring to pull it out? the horn is on the cars electronics system so unrelated to the engine oil. ;-)

Wow so many different types :- here goes 1.2 Engine at the front . 1.4 / 1.6 at the back on left. 1.4/1.6 16valve at the front. 2.0 litre 16v at the front.1.9D at the front. 1.9DTI built into the oil filler cap which is to the right of centre on top of the engine and is the yellow cap you mention. This is the only model with the dipstick built into the cap so if yours is not a 1.9DTI, the dip stick is in one of the positions mentioned above. Be warned though Renault have a habit as indeed do others of changing the spec on cars . As for horn, locate fuse box and check fuses ------ nothing to do with oil.
Hope this helps
Note to the quiet one.
Neither have I but there's a picture and diagram of it in the clio manual

"Renault Clio dipstick" is a good name for all those dopey drivers who sit at the wheel of these damned cars, holding up the traffic.
